Description

In the high Alps, extreme conditions, rock, and ice dictate the rhythm of both humanity and nature. The special exhibition looks at the locations of their encounters and the challenges they both face directly. Current research on the shrinking Alpine glaciers due to climate change and its effects on the highly adapted alpine wildlife on one hand – on the other hand, the long history of humans in the Alps, represented almost symbolically by the Glocknerhaus, which will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2026. Built and maintained by the Klagenfurt section of the Austrian Alpine Club, it tells of exploration, development, and a great responsibility. Today, the Austrian Alpine Club manages a network of 26,000 kilometers of trails and 225 huts. 193 sections and 25,000 volunteers secure its work – high in the Alps.
